To save the world ..

Ask the right questions of the right people

Steve discusses some aspects of the evolution of our agricultural systems from the invention of the Haber-Bosch system until today. The transition towards energy-intensive systems that are destructive of both environments and human health was not inevitable. At the beginning of the 20th century the question “how to maintain the fertility and productivity of agricultural land in the face of strong population growth” was asked of chemists. Steve imagines the world today if the answer had been given by biologists and ecologists. Today we are making the same mistake, we are turning to microbiologists and Hi-tech for solutions.

Steve proposes the idea that if we want to make our societies resilient and egalitarian it is fundamental to ask experts who master a holistic and sophisticated approach to finding solutions.
